California Gubernatorial Recall Election, Preliminary Results Report #8 and Ballot Processing Update

SAN FRANCISCO, Saturday, September 18, 2021 – The San Francisco Department of Elections issued the eighth preliminary election results report of votes cast for the September 14, 2021, California Gubernatorial Recall Election.

Today’s report includes results from 11,068 vote-by-mail ballots tabulated since yesterday’s results report.

The estimated total number of ballots to process is 10,000, which consists of approximately 3,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 7,000 provisional and conditional voter registration ballots.

These approximate totals are based on preliminary counts of ballots and will change as the Department processes ballots over the next several weeks.

Department personnel will work until 5 p.m. today to process ballots.  The Department will close Sunday, September 18, 2021, and will not issue preliminary results reports.  The Department will re-open Monday, September 20.  Starting Monday, personnel will process ballots and review election-related materials from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each week day.

The Department will release the next preliminary results reports on Monday, September 20, at 4 p.m. and will post results reports on the Department’s website:

When releasing results, the Department also will post summary results, as well as results according to precincts, neighborhoods, and Supervisorial districts, and in multiple formats.
