For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, October 11, 2019 – In anticipation of the upcoming November 5, 2019, Consolidated Municipal Election, the Department of Elections encourages voters to check their registration information at The deadline to register to vote or to update registration information for the November 5 election is Monday, October 21, 2019. After the registration deadline, those who missed the deadline can visit the City Hall Voting Center or the San Francisco State University Voting Center (set to open on November 2) during voting hours to register to vote conditionally and cast a provisional ballot.

When using the Voter Portal, in addition to reviewing registration information, voters can check their language preferences for election materials, apply to vote by mail, locate their polling places, view sample ballots in various formats, and find information about their voting districts and elected officials. Those who already vote by mail may track the status of their ballots as the ballots move through various processing stages through counting.

The Voter Portal also allows voters to review their party preferences with which they are registered to vote. “For the November 5 election, the contests that appear on voters’ ballots depend on where they are registered to vote. However, for the March 3, 2020, Presidential Primary election, voters’ party preferences determine the candidates for President that voters will see on their ballots,” said Director Arntz.  “The Department of Elections is encouraging voters to check their party preferences, and, if necessary, update their registration information at or by submitting a paper voter registration application.”

Anyone with questions about registration or voting is encouraged to call the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375 or write to
