Department of Elections Encourages San Franciscans to Prepare, Plan, and Participate in the November 8 Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, September 23, 2016 – This week, every household in the City will receive a postcard with key election dates, a link to the Ballot Worksheet on, and information about availability of materials in Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino, in addition to English. The postcard also urges San Franciscans to “Prepare, Plan, and Participate” in the November 8 election.

As Election Day draws closer, the Department of Elections reminds everyone to complete these three important steps!

Prepare: Are you registered to vote? Is your voter registration up to date?

  • Check by using the Voter Registration Status Lookup tool on
  • Register to vote or make registration changes for the November 8 election before the deadline of Monday, October 24

Plan: Save time in the voting booth or filling out your vote-by-mail ballot by planning ahead!

  • Read your Voter Information Pamphlet for information about the voting process, election dates and deadlines, an impartial summary of each local ballot measure, candidate statements, and other helpful information. The pamphlet is available on in PDF format, with HTML and MP3 formats coming soon. The pamphlet will be mailed to voters in early October.
  • There are many items on the November 8 ballot! Prepare to vote by using the Ballot Worksheet to note your choices in advance. The worksheet is posted on and is the last page in the Voter Information Pamphlet.

Participate: Choose the voting option that best fits your schedule:

  • At the City Hall Voting Center, opening Tuesday, October 11
  • By mail; the request deadline is Tuesday, November 1
  • At your neighborhood polling place, which is listed on the back cover of your Voter Information Pamphlet or available at
