For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, September 18, 2019 – Next Tuesday, September 24, is National Voter Registration Day. On that day, the Department of Elections will be joining with thousands of others across the country to celebrate National Voter Registration Day with focused, nonpartisan voter registration efforts and building awareness of voting and upcoming elections.

To bring attention to voter registration and voting, on September 24, the Department of Elections’ Outreach Team will travel to several neighborhoods throughout the City in a “cable car” bus to host registration and voter education pop-up events. “With the local election happening in a few weeks and the next year’s presidential election cycle, the Department is committed to bringing voter registration opportunities to every neighborhood in the City,” said Director John Arntz.

At the pop-up events, the Department’s Outreach Team will engage City residents by providing voter registration forms and online registration as well as information about the upcoming November 5 election and election-related services.

Department personnel will also demonstrate the new voting equipment that San Francisco will use beginning with the November 5 election and facilitate practice sections marking a new grid-like ballot format with increased number of rankings in ranked-choice voting (RCV) contests.

Finally, the Department’s Team will spotlight the opportunity to serve as a poll worker and recruit those who are interested in assisting their communities on Election Day, November 5.

The Outreach Team will make scheduled stops at these locations (times of stops are approximate):

10 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., San Francisco Public Library – Bayview Linda Brooks-Burton Branch, 5075 3rd St.
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., San Francisco Public Library – Excelsior Branch, 4400 Mission St.
1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m., San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Ave.
3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m., University of California San Francisco – Parnassus Campus, 505 Parnassus Ave.
