For Immediate Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, October 4, 2022 – In preparation for the November 8, 2022, Consolidated General Election, the Department of Elections has begun mailing the official Voter Information Pamphlet (VIP) to locally registered voters. (Those who opted out of receiving the VIP in the mail, already have received an email with information on how to access the VIP online.)

In addition to a sample ballot, the VIP includes a wealth of information about by mail and in-person voting options, election dates and deadlines, voter rights, candidates and ballot measures, accessible and multilingual resources, and poll worker service opportunities.

“We are encouraging voters to prepare for voting by reviewing all official local and state election material carefully. Both the Voter Information Pamphlet prepared by the San Francisco Department of Elections and the Voter Information Guide provided by the California Secretary of State can help voters make decisions on the many items appearing on the ballot,“ said Director John Arntz. “The Department of Elections also provides the Voter Information Pamphlet in Chinese, Filipino, and Spanish, and in many accessible formats, and we encourage voters to notify the Department about their preferred language and/or format for their Pamphlet.”

This VIP contains a new section about the post-2020 census redistricting and reprecincting processes and resources available to voters to familiarize themselves with San Francisco’s new voting district maps. (For easy reference, the back cover of each VIP also notes the recipient voter’s current voting districts, precinct, and assigned polling place.) The VIP also includes an invitation to complete a short, anonymous survey -- one designed to solicit input on the Department’s future outreach efforts to provide election information to San Francisco residents. This survey can be accessed at

In addition to mail copy, the VIP is available in PDF, HTML, XML, and MP3 via and in large print, CD audio, USB, and National Library Service (NLS) cartridge by request.

Voters who do not receive their VIP by October 14 are encouraged to either access it online or to call the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375, write to, or visit City Hall, Room 48, to request redelivery.
