Preliminary Election Results: Report #15 and Ballot Processing Update

SAN FRANCISCO, Saturday, November 17, 2018 – Today the San Francisco Department of Elections issued the 15th preliminary election results report of votes cast for the November 6, 2018, Consolidated General Election. 

The Department will not process ballots or issue a preliminary results report on Sunday, November 18.  The Department will issue the next preliminary results report on Monday, November 19, 4 p.m.

CORRECTION: the manual tally of ballots from one percent of the City’s precincts that were randomly selected earlier today will begin Monday, November 19.  The press release the Department issued earlier today incorrectly indicated the manual tally would begin on November 26.

Today’s preliminary report includes results from approximately 5,300 ballots.  The Department must still process approximately 3,700 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.  The Department must still process any valid vote-by-mail ballots received from other counties as they arrive.

Today’s report includes votes from approximately 4,200 vote-by-mail ballots, approximately 700 provisional ballots, and 400 ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center by conditional voter registrants.

Ballot Processing Update

The Department continues to prepare approximately 3,700 ballots for counting.  This total includes over 2,200 vote-by-mail ballots and approximately 1,300 provisional ballots, and over 100 ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center by conditional voter registrants.  

One-Percent Manual Tally

The manual tally will begin on Monday, November 19, at 8 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. at the Department’s warehouse on Pier 48 and will proceed during work hours, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., excluding the holiday and weekends, until all chosen precincts are tallied.

Ballot processing and the canvass are open to public observation, in person, at the Department’s office in City Hall and the Department’s warehouse on Pier 48, and online, at sfelections.sfgov.org/observe-election-process.
