San Francisco Department of Elections: Election Results Report #11 and Ballot Processing Update

SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, November 13, 2018 – Today the San Francisco Department of Elections issued the 11th preliminary election results report of votes cast for the November 6, 2018, Consolidated General Election.
Today’s report includes results from more than 15,000 ballots. The Department must still process approximately 41,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.
Today’s report includes votes from over 14,000 the vote-by-mail ballots that voters dropped off at polling places on Election Day, that the United Postal Service (USPS) delivered after Election Day and were postmarked on or before November 6, received at the City Hall Voting Center and Drop-Off Stations.
The report also includes less than 50 votes cast on the accessible touch-screen equipment in polling places and the City Hall Voting Center and less than 600 votes cast as provisional ballots.
All voters Citywide voted using four-card ballots.

The Department must still review and process vote-by-mail ballots received from the polling places on Election Day, ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center and Drop-Off Stations, and vote-by-mail ballots received from the USPS after Election Day and postmarked on or before November 6 and which arrived by Friday, November 9. The Department must still also review and process the provisional ballots cast at polling places on Election Day.
The Department will issue preliminary results reports daily around 4 p.m.
Ballot Processing Update
The Department continues to prepare nearly 41,000 ballots for counting. This total includes approximately 15,000 vote-by-mail ballots and an estimated 26,000 provisional ballots. As the Department processes ballots, totals for these remaining ballots to count will change as more accurate counts are obtained. Counts may change also as the Department continues its canvassing and review of ballots and materials associated with the election.
The random selection of precincts for the one percent manual tally will occur Saturday, November 17, 10 a.m., in the Department’s office in City Hall room 48. The manual tally will begin on Monday, November 19, at 8 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. at the Department’s warehouse on Pier 48.
The Department will broadcast the selection of precincts and post a recording of the process on sfelections.sfgov.org/observe-election-process.
Ballot processing and the canvass are open to public observation, in person, at the Department’s office in City Hall and the Department’s warehouse on Pier 48, and online, at sfelections.sfgov.org/observe-election-process.
