San Francisco Department of Elections: Election Results Report #9 and Ballot Processing Update

SAN FRANCISCO, Sunday, November 11, 2018 – Today the San Francisco Department of Elections issued the ninth preliminary election results report of votes cast for the November 6, 2018, Consolidated General Election. 

Today’s report includes results from nearly 27,000 vote-by-mail ballots.  The votes reported today are from vote-by-mail ballots that voters dropped off at polling places on Election Day.  The Department must still process nearly 79,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.

All voters Citywide voted using four-card ballots.

The Department must still review and process vote-by-mail ballots received from the polling places on Election Day, ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center, ballots received at the City Hall drop-off stations, and vote-by-mail ballots received from the USPS after Election Day and postmarked on or before November 6 and which arrived by Friday, November 9.  The Department must still also review and process the provisional ballots cast at polling places on Election Day.

The Department will issue preliminary results reports daily around 4 p.m.

Ballot Processing Update
The Department continues to review nearly 79,000 ballots for processing.  This total includes approximately 52,000 vote-by-mail ballots and an estimated 26,000 provisional ballots.  As the Department processes the vote-by-mail and provisional ballots the totals for these categories of ballots will change as more accurate counts are obtained.

Voters also cast nearly 26,000 provisional ballots on Election Day.  The initial review of provisional ballots began Wednesday, November 8, and will continue for several more days.  The counting and reporting of votes from provisional ballots will begin on Tuesday, November 13.  

The Department’s City Hall office will be open Monday, November 12, for ballot processing.  The Department’s warehouse on Pier 48 will also be open Monday, November 12, to continue the canvassing of materials from the polling places.
