For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 – The San Francisco Department of Elections must still review and then process approximately 139,000 ballots cast in the November 6, 2018, Consolidated General Election.

The Department will issue a results report today around 4 p.m.  Today’s report will include ballots received on Election Day from the United States Postal Service (USPS).

All results reports are posted on the Department’s website:

https://sfelections.sfgov.org/november-6-2018-election-results-summary

Most of the remaining ballots to process were received on Election Day: approximately 18,000 vote-by-mail ballots received from the USPS, approximately 57,000 vote-by-mail ballots that voters dropped off at polling places, approximately 26,000 provisional ballots cast at polling places, over 4,000 vote-by-mail ballots from the Department’s Vote-by-Mail Drop-Off Stations located outside City Hall, and approximately 5,000 ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center.  Also, the Department must still process several thousand ballots received prior to Election Day.

Today, the USPS will deliver nearly 20,000 vote-by-mail ballots.  Most of the ballots from the USPS will likely have postmarks dated on or before Election Day which allows them to be processed and counted.

The Department will continue to process vote-by-mail ballots received from the USPS that arrive by Friday, November 9, if such ballots were delivered by the USPS or a delivery service, on or before Election Day, as shown by postmark, date stamp, or a voter’s dated signature.

The Department will review and process ballots over the next few weeks.  The Department expects to process most vote-by-mail ballots by Monday, November 12.  Provisional ballots will be included in results reports no earlier than Saturday or Sunday, November 10 or 11.

The Department will continue to release results reports daily, including this weekend, at 4 p.m.  Each daily release of results will include reports for the ranked-choice voting contests and a statement of the votes at the precinct level.

Ballot processing is open to public observation, either in person at the Department’s office in City Hall or viewing the online stream on sfelections.sfgov.org/observe-election-process.
