SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 – The San Francisco Department of Elections must still review and then tabulate more than 114,000 ballots cast in the November 8, 2016, Consolidated General Election.

The Department received approximately 55,000 vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots that voters delivered to polling places yesterday, and approximately 23,000 provisional ballots that voters cast at polling places.

Also remaining to count are more than 36,000 VBM ballots the Department received from the United States Postal Service (USPS), delivered to the Department’s two Ballot Drop-Off stations that were located outside City Hall, as well as ballots cast at the City Hall Voting Center before and on Election Day.

The Department will continue processing VBM ballots today and will issue another preliminary results report around 4 p.m. daily while counting is ongoing.  VBM processing will continue into next week.

The Department will begin preparations to review and process provisional ballots.  However, PV ballots will not be tabulated at the earliest until early next week.

VBM ballot and PV ballot processing is open to public observation, either in person at the Department’s office in City Hall or on SF Elections Live.
