For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, September 22, 2021 – The San Francisco Department of Elections issued the 11th preliminary election results report of votes cast for the September 14, 2021, California Gubernatorial Recall Election.

Today’s preliminary report includes results from 351 vote-by-mail, provisional, and conditional voter registration ballots.

Most ballots are now processed for this election.  Remaining are mostly vote-by-mail ballots with issues preventing the Department from counting such ballots (e.g., a voter did not sign their ballot return envelope). Voters whose ballots require corrective action were sent a postal notice and an email message that include various options to provide the required information to the Department. The Department urges voters who were notified of an issue with their ballot to provide the required information as soon as possible to allow the Department to count their ballot.

Department personnel will work from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. this week in City Hall to process ballots and review election-related materials.  The 1% manual tally of ballots of votes cast for this election occurred today at the Department’s warehouse on Pier 31.  The Canvass of election materials will continue at the warehouse daily form 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., except weekends.

The Department posts all preliminary results reports on its website:

When releasing preliminary results, the Department also will post summary results, as well as results according to precincts, neighborhoods, and Supervisorial districts, and in multiple formats.
