SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, January 24, 2020 –The Department of Elections has begun mailing the Voter Information Pamphlets to registered voters for the March 3 Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

The March 3 Voter Information Pamphlet contains sample ballots for voters who are registered to vote with a qualified political party and voters registered with no party preference. When reviewing the pamphlet, voters should refer to the sample ballot that corresponds to their current party preferences printed on the back cover of the pamphlet.

Although the substance of the pamphlet is the same for all voters, the back cover varies depending on whether or not the voter is registered with a party preference. Pamphlets mailed to No Party Preference voters will have a different version of the vote-by-mail ballot application on the back cover, specifying the ballot options available to these voters and serving as another means for them to request a crossover ballot of the American Independent, Democratic, or Libertarian party.

“We are encouraging voters to prepare for voting by reviewing all official local and state election material carefully and marking their choices on the worksheet or sample ballot included in their pamphlets,” said Director John Arntz. “The pamphlet also provides specific information about voting in the presidential primary election, such as why party preferences in voters’ registration records are important for this election and how voters can ensure that they receive the ballot with their preferred presidential candidate.”

Voters may access the pamphlet online by clicking “I WANT TO …Read March 3 Voter Pamphlet” on the homepage of Currently the pamphlet is posted in PDF format with HTML, XML, and MP3 formats following soon.

The Department of Elections also offers the pamphlet in accessible formats, including large print and audio on USB flash drive, National Library Service cartridge, or compact disc (CD). Voters may request one of these formats by calling (415) 554-4375, TTY (415) 554-4386, or emailing
