SAN FRANCISCO, Sunday, February 20, 2022 – The Department of Elections randomly selected ballots this morning to include in the 1% manual tally of votes cast in the February 15, 2022, Consolidated Special Municipal Election. 

The Department selected four precincts, using 10-sided dice, which represent one percent of the number of polling places used in the February 2022 election. 

The Department also randomly selected five batches of vote-by-mail ballots, and one batch of provisional ballots.

The Department will manually tally these ballots to compare against results reported from the Department’s voting equipment to verify the accuracy of the voting system. 

The Department webcast the random selection of the precincts and batches included in the 1% manual tally and posted a recording of the selection process on sfelections.org/observe-election-process.

Observing the Manual Tally Process

The manual tally of selected ballots will occur Tuesday, February 22, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Department’s warehouse on Pier 31.   

The manual tally is open to public observation, either in person or by watching the live stream on sfelections.org/observe-election-process.
