For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, February 17, 2022 – Today the San Francisco Department of Elections issued the fourth preliminary election results report of votes cast in the February 15, 2022, Consolidated Special Municipal Election.
Today’s report includes 19,075 votes from vote-by-mail ballots processed since the last results report that the Department issued on Election Day.
The estimated total number of ballots to process is 30,000, which consists of approximately 29,000 vote-by-mail ballots and 1,000 provisional and 50 conditional voter registration ballots.
Yesterday, the Department received nearly 10,000 vote-by-mail ballots from the United States Postal Service (USPS). After review, the Department determined nearly all return envelopes were postmarked on or before Election Day and eligible for processing. Today, the Department received nearly 1,800 ballots from the USPS, of which 300 had valid postmarks and will be counted. The Department will continue to process vote-by-mail ballots with valid postmarks and are received through Tuesday, February 22, from the USPS or a bona fide private mail delivery company.
Department personnel will be in City Hall until 6 p.m. today to process ballots, and tomorrow, Friday, February 18, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Department expects to process most vote-by-mail ballots by Saturday, February 19, and also to begin reporting results from provisional and conditional voter registration ballots on Saturday.
These approximate totals are based on preliminary counts of ballots and will change as the Department processes ballots over the next several days. The Department will issue daily updates at 4 p.m. that include the number of ballots remaining for processing and will post results reports on the Department’s website:
When releasing results, the Department also will post summary results, as well as results according to precincts, neighborhoods, and Supervisorial districts, and in multiple formats.
