SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, April 21, 2022 – Today the San Francisco Department of Elections issued the fourth preliminary election results report of votes cast in the April 19, 2022, Special General Election.

Today’s report includes 16,029 votes from vote-by-mail ballots processed since the previous preliminary results report that the Department issued on Election Day.

The estimated total number of ballots to process is 620, which consists of approximately 200 vote-by-mail ballots, and 400 provisional and 20 conditional voter registration ballots.

Yesterday, the Department received 2,700 vote-by-mail ballots from the United States Postal Service (USPS).  After review, the Department determined nearly all return envelopes were postmarked on or before Election Day and eligible for processing. Today, the Department received nearly 641 ballots from the USPS, of which 124 had valid postmarks and will be counted. The Department will continue to process vote-by-mail ballots with valid postmarks and are received through Tuesday, April 26, from the USPS or a bona fide private mail delivery company.

The Department will issue the next preliminary results report tomorrow, April 22, which will include votes from most remaining ballots.  The Department will not issue preliminary results reports this weekend, April 23 and 24.

All results reports are posted on the Department’s website:

When releasing results, the Department also will post summary results, as well as results according to precincts, neighborhoods, and Supervisorial districts, and in multiple formats.
