Department of Elections Reminds Voters of Return Options for Vote-by-Mail Ballots

SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, May 30, 2018 –The Department of Elections reminds voters who have not yet returned their vote-by-mail ballots of several options to do so:

By Mail
Voters who plan to mail their ballots are reminded that ballot envelopes must be postmarked, or date stamped by a delivery company, before or on Election Day, Tuesday, June 5, and received by the Department no later than Friday, June 8, in order for the ballots to be counted.

In Person
Voters who plan to return their ballots in person may bring their ballot envelopes to the Department’s Voting Center in City Hall, the Ballot Drop-Off Stations outside City Hall, or any polling place during voting hours on Election Day, Tuesday, June 5.

Voting Center is open as follows:

  • Weekdays through June 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • This weekend, June 2-3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (enter on McAllister Street or Grove Street)
  • Election Day, Tuesday, June 5, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ballot Drop-Off Stations will operate from Saturday, June 2, through Election Day, Tuesday, June 5, as follows:

  • This weekend, June 2–3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside two City Hall entrances: the entrance on McAllister Street and the entrance on Grove Street
  • On Monday, June 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Election Day, Tuesday, June 5, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., outside main entrance at Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place (Polk Street) and the entrance on Grove Street.  

Any voter who is unable to mail or personally return the ballot may designate someone else to return it by providing the required information on the back of the return envelope.
